Have you ever visited a village with only 320 people that has access to the best hikes in Argentina? Well, El Chalten is the place to be!
You can start many hikes from the village itself. The views from town are already amazing but go out to do some hiking in the area maybe you will even see a condor, a glacier and cool mountains.
Hike to cerro Torre for a very cool view of the glacier. You can find the details about this hike here.

Where to sleep in El Chalten
El Chalten ain’t cheap to sleep. There are many many places but the average price is pretty high so we slept in a dorm.
We slept in a big house with 5 rooms (total 30 persons). The fridge and the kitchen are way to small for these amount of people. One bathroom in your 6 bed dorm room. Only 4 plugs to charge for 6 persons.
26 us dollars per night/ 2 persons. We stayed 2 nights. Paid in dollars to avoid the 21% tax if you want to pay by creditcard they charge you 10% extra.
How to get to El Chalten
We came from El Bolson with a 21 hours bus drive. The bus only stops a couple of times so people can get in and out and a quick bite to eat. We had a semi cama seat which means the seat can recline 140 degrees so you can lay down a bit to get some sleep. They play movies day and night so no need to get bored.
This trip comes with a price… the bus costs 7300 pesos (115 euro).
El Chalten is only a 3 hours drive away from El Calafate.
