Day 1-3 Varna
For a summer vacation Varna is the perfect choice to begin your holiday in Bulgaria. Varna has it’s own airport and tickets to it are normally cheaper then tickets to Burgas. Varna is also the marine capital of Bulgaria, has a nice city centre and great places to eat.
Day 3-6 Sunny beach/Nesebar
7 km white sand with a cool sea that’s why you visit Sunny Beach. So you can spend one day at the beach and the other one to explore the small cobble stone streets of next door neighbour Nesebar. Nesebar and Sunny beach are only 5 kilometers apart and there are regular buses between these villages.
Day 6-8 Burgas
Burgas city has a lot to offer including beaches. Take some time to visit The pink lakes. This is something to see it to believe it. Close by is poda national park, go here if you love birds or snakes.
Day 8-10 Plovdiv
The city has a charming old town and 200 archaeological sites to visit. Together with museum, ancient theaters and museums this is the cultural capital of Bulgaria and definitely worth a visit.
Day 10-12 Bansko
Visit the mountains for some fresh air, slide on the longest inflatable waterslide in Europe or go hiking in the mountains. In winter Bansko is the place for skiing.
Day 12-14 Sofia
The capital of Bulgaria has some fun free tours. Churches, bridges and some nice museums are great things to visit in one of the oldest capitals in the world.
If you don’t want to go to Bansko, exchange this place for Sapareva Banya. From this city you can visit the Seven Rila lakes. Very nice hiking trip in a beautiful nature area.
This itinerary is possible to do by public transport. If you have your own car you can also make a detour to visit Rila monestary on your way to Bansko or Sofia (a little detour).
In total we spend over 5 weeks in Bulgaria and we stayed in Bankso and Sunny Beach for a week. Check our Bulgaria page for all our adventures.
